Spirits week!

It may be Halloween week, but the spirits I’m thinking of are much less scary….Campari, Rye Whisky, Gin, and Vermouth. Inspired by my husband’s current obsession with Negroni’s and it’s cousin the Boulevardier, I thought why not spike some traditional holiday recipes with a boozy spin? Somehow in this blurry time warp we are in, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. While many of us will still be social distancing, there is no reason not to make the holiday special and create new traditions to add to our repertoire.

While I’m not a huge fan of these cocktails on their own, I do love the bitter and sweet flavors together in baking and cooking. For my first recipe, I made a deliciously deep ruby red Boulevardier Cranberry Sauce, that also doubles as a glaze for your turkey or even vegetables if you are vegetarian. If you love the flavors of a Negroni or Boulevardier, you will love this boozy syrupy concoction. When I offered my husband a taste he said –tastes exactly like the cocktail!

As many of us, where possible, are celebrating Thanksgiving outside and grilling a turkey, brush it with this cranberry glaze for a sweet and tangy twist. The glaze would work great lightly brushed on roasted squash or grilled sweet potatoes as well.

Not everyone is a fan of cranberry sauce, so if you find yourself with leftovers, use the sauce as an ingredient in another recipe, like my cranberry oat breakfast bars. Check back soon for more delicious cocktail-inspired fall recipes!
